SAY YES to the East West Link
Monday, 21 October 2019
The Liberal Nationals are calling on Victorians to help us change Daniel Andrews’ mind.
Victorians deserve to spend less time stuck in traffic and more time with family and friends, but congestion is bad and getting worse.
The Say Yes to East West community campaign, launched today, will allow Victorians to have their say on the East West Link.
This year, the Andrews Labor Government refused $4 billion from the Federal Government to build the East West Link.
The Morrison Government is offering to build Daniel Andrews an East West Link.
Who says no to a free road?
Sadly the Premier, in a political decision, keeps saying no.
While motorists battle standstill traffic on the Eastern Freeway each weekday, Daniel Andrews continues to ignore the expert advice of Infrastructure Australia which says the East West Link is a ‘top priority’ for Victoria.
The experts say we need it. Commuters and small businesses know we need it.
Four-and-a-half-years ago the Andrews Labor Government tore up the contract to build the East West Link costing Victorian taxpayers $1.3 billion.
Had the contract not been torn up, the East West Link would be opening this year.
Premier – commuters have had enough spending hours each week stuck in their cars.
It’s time to SAY YES to East West.
Comments attributable to Leader of the Opposition, Michael O’Brien:
“Melbourne’s traffic congestion is bad and getting worse because our major freeways aren’t connected. The East West Link will ease congestion across the road network.
“Infrastructure Victoria and Infrastructure Australia say it needs to be built. Victorians who are stuck in traffic know that it needs to be built. The Federal Government is willing to pay for it.
“All Daniel Andrews has to do is stop blocking it and SAY YES to East West.
“The best time to start building the East West Link was five years ago. The second best time is today.
“The Liberal Nationals will stand up for Victorians who want to get home sooner and safer with the East West Link.”
