Road Upgrades at Killara Road &

Maroondah Highway, Coldstream

"For years, together with the Coldstream CFA volunteers and local residents, we have advocated for making this road safe for locals, tourists, transporters and first responders alike.

Whilst the Andrews Labor government...has blatantly ignored the concerns of Coldstream residents, the minister and the Labor government cannot now ignore that the federal [Liberal-Nationals] government has handed over $20 million to get on with the job.

...When will VicRoads get underway to make this dangerous road safe, respect the Coldstream community, install traffic lights at Killara Road and duplicate the Maroondah Highway?"

WATCH: The Coldstream community deserves answers! I've called on the Andrews Labor Gov't to confirm when VicRoads will start works to duplicate Maroondah Hwy and put traffic lights at Killara Rd. After the excitement and relief for Coldstream residents, traders and the Coldstream CFA Fire Brigade in securing funding from the Federal Liberal Government, unfortunately the Andrews Labor Gov't has put the project on ice. I will continue to voice our community's concerns until this much needed road safety upgrade is delivered.

Constituency Question – Bridget Vallence MP – 14 November 2019

My constituency question is to the Minister for Roads on behalf of Coldstream residents and traders and the Coldstream fire brigade. When will work commence to duplicate the Maroondah Highway in Coldstream and install traffic lights at the Killara Road intersection, given that this project is fully funded by the federal government?

For years, together with the Coldstream CFA volunteers and local residents, we have advocated for making this road safe for locals, tourists, transporters and first responders alike. Our community was happy and relieved when the federal Liberal-Nationals government allocated $20 million to fully fund this project in the 2019–20 budget.

Whilst the Andrews Labor government unfortunately has blatantly ignored the concerns of Coldstream residents, the minister and the Labor government cannot now ignore that the federal government has handed over $20 million to get on with the job.

Minister, when will VicRoads get underway to make this dangerous road safe, respect the Coldstream community, install traffic lights at Killara Road and duplicate the Maroondah Highway?

Road Safety Upgrades at Maroondah Highway and Killara Road, Coldstream

I pay tribute to the Coldstream community who have finally been successful, after many years of campaigning, to have traffic lights installed at the dangerous intersection of Killara Road and Maroondah Highway in Coldstream.

Coldstream CFA volunteers, local residents and local traders have been advocating for upgrades to enable safe navigation through this area for locals, tourists, transporters and first responders alike.

Unlike those opposite, local Liberals have listened to what matters most to the Coldstream community. I fought hard together with local residents for years seeking road safety upgrades at Killara Road and Station Street, and was proud to have promised to the community in 2018 that a State Liberal Government would install traffic lights at this dangerous intersection.

Whilst the Andrews Labor Government, unfortunately, blatantly ignored the concerns of Coldstream residents and traders and did not support delivering that promise, I am pleased to inform this chamber that our hardworking Federal Liberal Member, Tony Smith, has now secured $20 million of Commonwealth funds.

This will ensure installation of traffic lights at Killara Road and Station Street becomes a reality, along with duplication of the highway through this area.

With funding confirmed, I look forward to VicRoads getting underway on this much needed safety upgrade.

I wish to acknowledge the dedication and hard work of all locals involved, and particularly congratulate the volunteers at the Coldstream CFA Brigade led by Captain Sean Bethell, and local advocate Kevin Ryan and the Coldstream Voice action group for leading a petition on this issue.
