An elected Liberal Nationals Government will provide $3.5 million to rebuild Mount Evelyn Police Station.
For too long, local police have been working in a station that is rundown and does not meet the needs of modern law enforcement to help keep the community safe.
Under the Andrews Labor Government, crime has increased by 41.6% in Mount Evelyn.
Rebuilding the Mount Evelyn Police Station will contribute toward 21st century policing in our local community including the capacity for increased police numbers and opening hours in the future.
The Liberal Nationals will also contribute $25,000 for lighting in the Wray Crescent car park (near the Warburton Rail Trail) to improve safety at night for residents, traders and tourists.
The Liberal Nationals plan to invest in police stations across Victoria to support police and give them the resources they need. Rebuilding Mount Evelyn Police Station is part of our local community safety plan in the Yarra Ranges that includes the rebuild of Monbulk Police Station and adequate resourcing to make sure Mooroolbark Police Station operates 24 hours a day.
Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Police, Edward O’Donohue:
“The Mount Evelyn community deserves to feel safe, yet under Daniel Andrews crime has increased 41.6%, and our local police stations have been neglected. Only the Liberal Nationals will rebuild both Mount Evelyn and Monbulk Police Stations.
Daniel Andrews has lost control of law and order; only the Liberal Nationals have a plan for a more secure community with more police, better resources for local police, stronger sentencing, tougher parole conditions and a return to the principle that bail is a privilege not a right for violent offenders.”
Comments attributable to Liberal Candidate for Evelyn, Bridget Vallence:
“Our local police women and men deserve the vital resources they need to fight crime and protect our community. My commitment to rebuild the Mount Evelyn Police Station, and upgrade safety lighting in the Wray Crescent car park, delivers the resources needed to keep our community safe.
If I am elected to represent Evelyn, I will continue working hard to ensure safety comes first for our local community.”
